Unthinkable, unforgivable
In a span of one week, I’ve read two incidents of infanticide — one was consumated (http://www.gmanews.tv/story/101640/Baby-girl-dies-after-being-hurled-from-9th-floor) and one, thankfully, was not (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/metro/view/20080620-143697/Baby-thrown-from-cab-now-out-of-danger). As a mother and as a human being, these two stories will undoubtedly haunt...

My second coming
I haven’t been able to update this blog as often as I used to. In fact, I havbe not stayed true to my promise of making this a mirror site of my blogspot one. I intend to change that. And I wanna start today.

And we're off to the US!
Barely 2 days after getting our Visas, we were told that we are REALLY going to Chicago. Talk about planning a trip on short notice! Ok, just a quick update on our team’s US trip. 1. Tickets has been booked (finally!) last night. We are taking the Manila-HK-LA-Chicago and back route. Roughly about 16 hours of flying. Yes, it’s more than half a freaking day up in the air but hey, what...

Guess who's holding a US VISA?
Yep, you guessed right. It’s moi! Can you believe it? Neither can I. And what’s amazing about this whole thing is the fact that they gave me a 10 year, MULTIPLE entry to the US. Talk about lady luck smiling widely at me. Here’s the full story: About three weeks ago, our team got the shock of our lives when we were told that a writing workshop is in the works for all regional...

Mo cuishle
Just in case you were wondering, the title is an Irish Gaelic translation of “my darling, my blood”. Its  literal meaning is “my pulse”. This line was used by Clint Eastwood in the movie “Million Dollar Baby” when referring to the character of Hillary Swank. If you will recall, the movie is about a down-and-out boxing trainer who develops a stronger-than-blood...

Cruising
We had a unique team bonding session three weeks ago. I say unique because although it involved the same old dinner and conversation routine, this time around we did this  while cruising along Manila bay. For an hour and a half, we were treated to a full course dinner (hmm, it wasn’t exactly what I would have expected from Barbara’s Catering but it wasn’t that bad) and...

New generation sinning
The Vatican has recently released a new list of 7 deadly sins —yes, in addition to the original 7. Original 7: Pride Lust Wrath Greed Sloth Envy Gluttony 21st century sinning genetic modification experimenting on humans polluting the environment causing social injustice causing poverty becoming obscenely wealthy taking drugs I’m not quite sure how to take this news. While I agree with...

For a dear, dear friend
I know I came across really harsh yesterday and the day before that but I think I was just giving you what you needed. When I said I wasn’t going to sugarcoat stuff for you, I meant it. And i think this is what friendship is all about. We need to be honest, even brutally so, if the occassion calls for it. And yes, in this instance, it was very much called for. I know that you are grieving...

The daily grind...
…has interrupted the continuous flow of my blog entries. Suffice to say that the past 2 weeks have been incredibly H-E-C-T-I-C! Big D’s arrival in Manila, as expected, disrupted our work flow as we had to make time for a series of meetings with him. He was  here for just three days but those three days felt more like three full weeks. But it wasn’t that bad, really. I actually...

Happy 31st to me!
Today, I am celebrating my birthday in the most unusual way. Instead of being out or at the office, I am at home —nursing my little boy back to health. All throughout the long weekend. the little one is battling with the common cough and cold virus and I reckon, teething. It seems that one of his molars is just about ready to make itself visible. So in addition to sore arms (from carrying...

OUCH!
The inevitable has happened! Despite keeping a close watch on the little one and doing our best to protect him from falling down and hurting himself, Anton finally tripped and hurt himself. And he has a bump on the forehead to prove it. Shucks! For those who have been keeping a close tab on the developments of the little one (read: tita laluy, tita nina, my dad and brothers plus a few other...

– from the 1999 movie An Ideal Husband. I think this quote is very apt considering all the recent political events that have taken shape in my beloved Philippines. I sometimes ask myself: Will all these vile acts of plunder ever stop? Will we ever learn? Will our “elected” officials ever...

Ashes to ashes..dust to dust
Yesterday’s celebration (can we even call it that??) of Ash Wednesday signalled the beginning of Lent for us Catholics. For the first time in years, I followed the Lenten rituals of the Church which included (1) attending mass (2) having ashes imposed on my forehead (3) fasting or self-denial (a.k.a abstinence). I know that we are really expected to do all three but for several years, I...

Knowing His words
I have been attending bible study sessions at our office for quite some time now and have so far, been enjoying it. Not only have I learned new things —I have also gained new friends along the way. I also consider it a blessing that for the past few months, I have taken my understanding of His words to a deeper level. And while I know I still have a long way to go, it really is nice to feel...

First Haircut
Anton had his first haircut yesterday at the Kid’s Salon over at SM Southmall. The entire family was there to witness the event —even Lola Bolay (undisputed number 1 of Anton) tagged along! Once again, the little one made his momma proud by being brave despite the annoying sound of the baby shaver. And while the baby cried while his head was being shaved off, he sat very still and...

Celebration!
We can’t seem to stop celebrating Anton’s birthday! After hosting a Jollibee kiddie party for some neighborhood kids, we also treated some relatives and close friends to lunch over at Max’s Glorietta. There wasn’t much hoopla involved, just the right combination of food and great company to celebrate Anton’s first birthday. Despite some sleep deprivation, Anton...
